Barnardo’s Stronger Families Service is expanding in North Ayrshire. Funding has been received from the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund to upscale the current service to include support to Kinship families where substance use was a factor in the placement.
Here is some information about the service, which is Whole Family Support:
The service will aim to prevent placement breakdowns and therefore further involvement of statutory services. It will also aim to help to reduce the number of children and young people being removed from kinship placement and placed in foster care or a children’s house.
Impact of support will aim to:
- Improve family relationships
- Support to access other relevant services
- Practical and emotional support
- Substance use awareness
- Linking young people and families in with their local communities
- Supporting families to reduce the need for further statutory intervention
In line with the Principles of Holistic Whole Family Support, the service will aim to ensure that individual and family needs are identified and addressed. Staff will work with individuals and families at a time and location to suit their needs – our approach is trauma responsive, person-centred, rights-based and non-stigmatising.
The service aims to build families capacity and link in with the wider community supports such as housing services, money matters, health, education, youth services etc.
If a young person is in a Kinship placement within North Ayrshire and they need some support, the service help. There is no time limit on support. Referrals are open and can be made through any avenue, they can come directly from the kinship carers, education, health, social work etc.
If you would like to discuss a referral please telephone the office on: 01294 558811.
The service aim for the leaflet to be updated with kinship carers and young peoples input soon.
