Join Thriving Survivors for their first annual conference focussing on: How the implementation of restorative practices/approach can lead to systemic change in Scotland.
During this one-day conference, we will focus on exploring the importance of using restorative approaches beyond justice, through four key themes of which we will have a workshop on each:
- Trauma-informed restorative practice
- Restorative practice in the justice system
- Restorative practice in education and early intervention
- Restorative practice Health and social care

Families Outside’s Training is aimed at all professionals whose role means they come into contact with families, and who feel that they would benefit from being able to better support families who are affected by imprisonment.
The Families Outside: Families Affected by Imprisonment training is designed to raise awareness of the impact imprisonment has on families, improve practice and develop the knowledge and skills of participants required when supporting families affected by imprisonment. Attendance at this training will count towards continuous professional development.
Attendance at the modules will aim to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Understand the impact imprisonment has on the whole family in order to reduce stigma and social isolation
- Improve the overall experience for families, including children and young people, navigating through the criminal justice process from arrest to release
You can choose to attend 1, 2 or all 3 modules. Each module is priced at £55 per person, per module.

An introduction to working with people with brain injury within prison, forensic mental health and criminal justice settings.
This training aims to provide an introduction to working with people with brain injury in the criminal justice system.
The following areas will be covered:
- Introduction – why head injury in prisoners is an issue needing consideration
- Basics about head injury and its effects
- Theoretical perspective on how traumatic brain injury is likely to increase risk of criminal behaviour
- What we know about head injury and offending – recent research in prisons in Scotland & short case examples
- Assessment – [nb will not deal with emergency care]
- Management and support
This training will be primarily of interest to those working within custodial settings and agencies such as the Scottish Prison Service, NHS Prison Healthcare, Criminal Justice Social Work and third sector organisations.
Whilst the training will largely be focused on prisons, practitioners working with individuals in forensic mental health services or who are in contact with the criminal justice system more broadly may also be interested in attending.
