Forensic Network are hosting a ‘Managing Personality Disorder in Custody’ training course.
Working with individuals who have personality difficulties and have offended can be challenging. This work can present particular challenges when the management is in custodial settings. Personality disorders are particularly prevalent in individuals who have committed violent offences and is often associated with serious harm and/or repeated offending.
This one day training day will cover:
- what is personality and personality disorder
- the continuum of personality functioning
- attachment trauma and adverse childhood experiences
- relational security and boundaries
- psychologically informed management
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is aimed at a variety of professional groups working with offenders in custody, including police and prison officers of all ranks, nurses and other professionals working in custodial settings.
COURSE FACILITATORS
Dr Claire MacLean, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2008. Since then she has worked clinically with people with a diagnosis of personality disorder in a variety of secure and non secure settings. Dr Maclean currently leads the Clinical Psychology Interventions Service within Prison Healthcare in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. She is an accredited MBT Therapist and skills trainer.
Dr Ashleigh MacDougall is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked in the NHS for 14 years, the majority of which has been within forensic healthcare services, including secure inpatient and community teams. During her training, she worked with an Offender Personality Disorder Pathway service in the North of England and her research explored the assessment of personality disorder in a forensic learning disability population. She currently works within prison healthcare and has a keen interest in psychological and systemic approaches to working with personality-related difficulties.
