Recovery Communities, Support and Activities

Across Ayrshire there are several groups of people who come together to support long term recovery and wellbeing (recovery communities).  These groups include individuals in recovery from alcohol or drug dependence, their families, peers and professionals.

Recovery communities allow people to share their experiences openly without judgement, helping reduce feelings of isolation and often provide peer support groups, drop-in sessions, social activities, coaching or mentoring, support with access to education, training or employment and signposting to other services.

Recovery is seen as a journey, not just about stopping substance use. Communities can help people to build confidence, purpose, healthy routines, relationships, and life skills.

Many recovery communities are peer‑led, meaning the people running the groups have personal experience of recovery themselves, which helps build trust and relatability.

Some of these services operate in only one local authority area and others operate over more than one.  Click on any of the buttons below to find out more about these services.
