All homelessness starts in a community. And some communities are more affected than others.
Which means it is important for:
- Community organisations and local networks to understand what steps they could take to prevent homelessness and why.
- The housing and homelessness sector to easily articulate and encourage the best type of local action to prevent homelessness.
- Local action that can bolster the ‘Ask & Act’ prevention duties on public bodies.
The new preventing homelessness duties will be included in the Housing Bill in the summer months and will place a duty on public bodies to ‘Ask & Act’ to prevent homelessness. In the backdrop of a cost-of-living crisis and rising homelessness, this briefing and discussion event is to consider what more can be done to prevent homelessness in Scotland by:
Learning from Lived Experience | Shea Moran, Change Lead and Associate, Homeless Network Scotland
The background of Ask & Act from the Prevention Commission
Learning from The Third Sector | Pauline Kerrigan, Funding Manager, The National Lottery Community Fund
Evaluation findings from a 2-year homelessness programme
Learning from Local Places | Andy Peline, SWAMP
Findings from a test-of-change programme that took a place-based approach to preventing homelessness
