Iriss Outlines are summaries of evidence produced by Iriss’s Information Specialists in the Evidence Search and Summary Service (ESSS). They are produced using flexible and thorough approaches to identify and evaluate a wide range of evidence — from research, practice and experience — to ensure robust outputs that meet the needs of social service stakeholders in Scotland.
The focus of this review was to identify evidence around ACEs and trauma-informed approaches to education and how ACEs can impact educational outcomes.
This evidence summary seeks to address the following questions relating to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and interventions within the education system:
- How may ACEs impact young people’s educational experiences?
- How can schools best support young people with ACEs?
- What kinds of approaches have been effective in creating the conditions for positive educational outcomes
